4th of JULY
My son and I got to see these fireworks in Washington D.C. on the National Mall on July 4th
We were on a 3-city baseball stadium tour with my son’s friend and his father Kenny Mazursky and happen to land at a Nationals game on the 4th.
Unfortunately, for us the fireworks celebration was severely dampened by the news for the Highland Park shootings earlier that day.
I went to Highland Park High School. The tragedy really hit home.
It was quite the juxtaposition to be ‘celebrating’ the nation’s birthday alongside the pain I felt from the still very fresh tragic news from Highland Park.
As I look back on that day last month, I still have mixed feelings.
On one hand, we have a huge national problem with gun control that needs to be dealt with. Yet, on the other hand, there are so many positives to living in a country as wonderful as the United States.
The USA has a well-established and stable political system.
The USA has a multicultural society.
The United States of America is generally considered the pioneer of human rights in the world.
Our country may not be perfect, but it’s still the best country in the world.
