Lessons in Inspiration

Ever seen a speaker at an event that really resonates with you?

That happened to me last year when I attended the keynote address at our first industry tradeshow in over 16 months.

Part of Dan Thurmon's speech at the ASI Show was about motivating others.

Dan told a story about being a young boy attending the Renaissance Faire in southern Wisconsin.

One of the performers at the Renaissance fair was a juggler. The juggler performed 6x a day. Dan was so fascinated by this juggler that he attended all 6 of his performances.

After the last performance (and after confirming that Dan wasn't a lost child!) the juggler said to Dan, “Hey I noticed that you were at all of my shows today… Do you want to learn how to juggle?”

Those were the words that came out of the juggler's mouth.

But the words that Dan heard were "You too can juggle…You are amazing and I believe in you.”

This anecdote resonated with me because as one of the leaders on my team, I have always believed that when you invest in someone, you activate them.

When you are truly present and spend time teaching someone "how to fish" you are effectively saying to them, "I see something in you. I see opportunities for you. And I believe in you.”

To amplify this point, Dan welcomed a woman up on stage who had never juggled before. With his help, within 10 minutes, she was "juggling". 🤹‍♀️

See the video below… And when you're done watching it, go tell someone that you believe in them.
