How to Build a Best Places to Work Team: A Short Tell-All.
Wowsa. Last week out of 100’s of applicants, Printable was named the #5 Best Place to Work in the branded merch space! It is the 7th year in a row our team has been named to this prestigious list.
At first, I thought that the Best Places to Work award was a vanity metric. However, seeing the thorough process that Advertising Specialty Institute has adopted for this award, I am even more proud of what we have built here at Printable.
These BPTW awards do not go to applicants that submit the fluffiest essay. They just don’t.
The application process is based on a comprehensive survey sent to ALL employees asking how the company fares on:
*Leadership
*Communication
*Salary and benefits
*Company culture and camaraderie
*Opportunities for growth
*And…
At Printable, we have built a meaningful, diverse organization that simultaneously gives our team the opportunity to succeed and help our clients build their brands.
As a member of the leadership team, I invest in our people because I know that if our people are not growing, there's little chance that our overall company will grow.
I work hard to treat each team member so they feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves.
Pardon my French, but IMO, the most important leadership trait is giving a sh*t about each team member.
It’s that simple.
No one ever forgets how you make them feel.
My team has heard me repeat the Maya Angelou quote ad nauseum “…people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
One of the most satisfying parts of my job is bringing others along for the (sometimes rocky!) entrepreneurial-roller-coaster ride.
