Marketing Rule of 7’s

Hey, marketers, do you think the marketing rule of 7’s still applies today?

The marketing rule of 7's says that a potential customer must “hear” a message at least 7 times before they'll be provoked to take an action.

The concept was developed by the movie industry in the 1930s. Studio bosses discovered that a certain amount of advertising and promotion was required to compel someone to see one of their movies.

But these days, with all of the clutter in people’s inboxes, newsfeeds or general fields of vision, is 7 touches really enough?

And if you need more than 7 touches, does social media count as a full touch since attention spans are so fleeting?
