Team Motivation

Managers and leaders: Here’s one way to stem the tide of the Great Resignation in your organization.

We’ve all read about employees leaving their jobs in record numbers in the past year+. The unlucky ones amongst us have experienced it firsthand.

This phenomenon doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon as companies are faced with high employee turnover and understaffing (which is sometimes WORSE for your business!).

But this period of workforce change also represents new opportunities to connect with your team, according to Keith Ferrazzi chairman of the consulting firm Ferrazzi Greenlight and author of the book “Competing in the New World of Work”.

Chances are, that when we all took the jobs we currently have we were looking for something larger than just the # on our paycheck stubs.

But at many organizations, not every job (even though it is labeled as front-line, mission-critical) — is “the fun job”.

What can you do to spice up those jobs to stem the resignation tide?
Well, according to Ferrazzi, independent of the job itself, variety is actually the spice of work.

Give people an opportunity to pursue a small amount of their time on passion projects — those might be beneficial company-specific “side” projects that either you (OK) or they (BETTER!) identify.

Or give them the space to pursue PAID nonprofit philanthropic projects on the side.

Beyond a seasonable doubt (couldn’t resist), these opportunities will help break employees out of their normal routines, add some spice to their work and will result in that employee feeling more tethered to the workplace you’ve created.

Yes, created.

Creating an organizational culture that can (hopefully!) stem the tide of the Great Resignation is something you have to create.

If you add in more spice, there will be absolutely no season for employees to go anywhere else 😊
