Personal Responsibility

Have you done anything embarrassing lately that you’ve shared with your team to show personal responsibility/ show your vulnerability?

Recently, I had one of my biggest Doh! moments while on vacation.

While snorkeling, I emerged only to find that I had forgotten to take my wallet out of my bathing suit cargo pocket!

I quickly learned two things: 1) Cash dries quickly 2) Paper auto insurance cards do not! (see pic)

One of our Printable core values is “Take Personal Responsibility”.

My snorkeling-wallet faux pas was the perfect opportunity to take personal responsibility for my stupidity and show my vulnerability with the team.

So, what did I do?

I sent them all the same pic and shared the same story I am sharing with you!

As a leader, one of the things I try very hard to do is live these core values and be an example for the team that I lead.

Everyone makes mistakes, it’s how you handle them that matters. Owning up to them, taking responsibility, and learning from them is what’s truly important.
