The Power of Empathy
HR Folks: Are you/your leaders empathetic bosses?
A recent Businessolver survey found that 93% of employees are more likely to stay with their job if their boss is empathetic.
What does that look like?
Here are a few things I’ve learned about being an empathetic boss:
❤️ Check in on employees that take sick days.
Consider sending chicken soup (Jewish Penicillin!) or Edible Arrangements or flowers from a local florist.
❤️ Be on the lookout for team members who might be burnt out after a particularly tough project or from a family crisis.
Consider sending a Grub Hub gift card, ordering a pizza for delivery or have Potbelly or Insomnia Cookies delivered (umm, personal wish).
❤️ Before traveling with a team member, consider equipping him/her/them with gear appropriate for that business trip.
For example, a new pair of shoes for a tradeshow, a fun Hawaiian shirt for a warm weather event or a new beanie and mittens for a cold weather trip.
Empathy coming from the boss is critical to fostering a healthy work environment.
If you have them, please share any examples of an empathetic boss in your current/past work life!
