My daughter is a HS senior. She recently shared something she saw on her Insta feed that I thought was kind of disturbing.

Have you heard of College-Decision Bed Decorating Parties? It’s the latest way to celebrate your teen’s college choice.

In short, bed decorating is a display of college gear/colors to celebrate a college commitment, usually decked out on a teen’s bed.

Think over-the-top school spirit swag explosion. Think kind-of-obnoxious.

Being in the branded merchandise space, you’d think I’d love this display of swag. But it just feels excessive.

I love cookies but I wouldn’t want to eat a whole tray of them (or would I? 😊)

Maybe it’s the old school in me that thinks that having 2-3 of something is enough; it leaves room for future purchases and future gifting. And it’s hard to ignore that the whole reason behind the garish school swag display is social media postings. Hello Instagram.
