How to be the World’s Best boss?

Attention HR Folks, business leaders and entrepreneurs:

Are you the World’s Best Boss? (tip of the cap to Michael Scott).

I certainly cannot claim to be the World’s Best Boss, but here are 7 things I learned about “managing” folks over the past 25 years (yes, I’m that old!)

🏆 Praise early, praise often – everyday find someone on your team doing something right and tell them how great it is to have them on the team

🏆 And don’t just tell THEM, send out group emails telling others about their amazing teammate

🏆 At company-wide meetings call out specific people for embodying one of your organization’s core values (give examples!)

🏆 At department meetings give each team member a dedicated slide and a chance to shine by sharing his/her/their progress towards metrics

🏆 Check in on employees that take sick days and consider sending chicken soup (Jewish penicillin) or Edible Arrangements

🏆 Be on the lookout for team members who might be burnt out after a particularly tough week. Consider sending a Grub Hub gift card or Insomnia Cookies (umm, personal wish).

🏆 Work on yourself. If you are learning and growing by attending lectures, seminars or networking events, you will be in a better mental state to manage others. Consider a Masterclass subscription to help with your critical thinking.

But, the most important trait to have when managing people, just show you care.

“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take (Wayne Gretzky via Michael Scott)”
